Rather from the heart

  Matthew 21 : 28 “What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
   29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
   30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.
   31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted?”
   “The first,” they answered.
   Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

Rather say you will not and then go and do it from your heart, than feel forced to say yes and never do it.( just don't say NO when you know you will be doing it and then do it for the praise you will receive)

  2. Matthew 5: 33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’

    34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne;

    35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.

    36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.

    37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
